Possible Dangers Related To Hoarding

Increased Risk of Fire

The more items around a home, the higher the chances a fire can ignite and the more fuel it has to spread, which can put you at a dangerous risk.

Decreased Escape Room

Rescue crews often have limited access to a home due to piles blocking windows and doors, causing unnecessary deaths to occur in homes where hoarding is present.

Increased Indoor Air Pollutants

Mold, mildew, radon, carbon monoxide, pollen, dander, and cigarette smoke are just some of the indoor air impurities and odors caused by hoarding.

Tripping or Falling

Piles of items and stacks of belongings that start to consume a house make it harder and harder to navigate through and easier to trip on. The risks increase with age; falls are often fatal in seniors who don’t have the strength to get back up.

Structure Collapses

The more your home stores, the greater the weight becomes, and if rooms are filled with possessions, the load can and has led to collapses in a home.

Biohazard Development

As the number of items grows, there is probably garbage, debris, and, if animals or pests are present, feces and urine.

The Hoarding Cleaning Process

In our business, we have managed to simplify the remediation process from start to finish, entirely taking the burden off of you and your family.

  • We'll ask questions about the property to estimate hoarding cleanup costs.

When you call, our agents will ask questions about the property’s size, condition, and hazards. This information is used to estimate supply and material costs.

We’ll also provide a timeframe for when we can arrive. We have several crews working in an area at a time to get you help as soon as possible. We will have you sign a SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) that will detail exactly what services will be conducted and what, if any, items you’d like us to keep. We work with you to make sure nothing of value is discarded. We treat your belongings as if they were our own and focus on disposing only of what’s contaminated with bio.

  • Our crew will take photos and notes upon arrival.

Photos and notes of the property and damages will be taken when we arrive, and this will include hazards not already photographed or noted prior. These photos and notes are used for insurance, administrative documentation, and if applicable, restoring the work areas to their previous state. We’ll pay special attention to any items of value or that you’ve specifically requested us to place aside and not discard.

  • Property will be tested and treated.

Our crews will arrive in PPE and fully equipped with cleaning supplies and testing equipment. We’ll first begin by removing any items that are considered bio or have been contaminated with bio and placing them in an outside dumpster.

We will set aside any items of value that you’ve previously requested to keep and sanitize them. We treat your home as if it were our own; we never use sprays that will stain or tarnish your valuables and work within your wishes and instructions. Our cleaning supplies and testing equipment are non-allergenic and leave no harmful residue, dyes, fragrances, or toxins. They are botanical hospital-grade disinfectants that can be handled with no PPE.

We keep you updated every step of the way on changes and concerns regarding the home. In severe circumstances, parts of the home may be compromised by the weight of the hoards and have to be restored. We will provide clear details on what needs to be done as we proceed.

  • We carefully inspect and sanitize all work areas prior to leaving the property.

We carefully inspect all work areas prior to leaving to ensure no clutter is remaining. Our first priority is your safety. After, We work diligently using hospital grade disinfectants to ensure the highest level of cleanliness and sanitization is met. All areas of the home are then restored to the way they were prior to the cleanup. Finally, we make sure every part of the cleaning process has been met to your satisfaction.

  • We carefully dispose of waste per OSHA rules and regulations.

A specially licensed and certified biohazard team must remove and transport the disposal to a licensed facility. OSHA requires that the waste be disposed of at an approved and licensed facility.

This isn’t a job you want to attempt yourself; the fines for improper disposal are hefty, and as the bio is disturbed, visible and non-visible bio is released into the air. Why would you want to expose yourself?
